Entry 16 (That's all, folks!)

As of a few weeks ago, the project is officially done. It was an excellent experience and I highly recommend CAPS to any young ones at Newton North who might wanna do something memorable with the latter half of their senior year!

Overall, Organization of Sound has been the highlight of my time at Newton North. I can't thank everyone involved enough for giving me the opportunity, especially Mr, Finnegan and Mr. G. It was a truly unparalleled experience that both allowed me to do something I love and also learn a lot of new things!

Peace to the streets everyone. See you on the flippity flip.

Entry 15!

Well everyone, the research paper is done. With the exception of my final presentation, the CAPS process is now winding down for me. Here's the link it you would like to read it!

Also, all my primary research is now neatly organized under the brand new "Research" tab. Please check it out if you're interested to see what I was able to conduct on my own (notice: at this time the focus group information isn't quite up due to various technical difficulties, but I'm workin' on it!)

Entry 14! (Making up for previous days)

First update in a long while! Yes folks, I'm still here, and I've come to fill you in on the last few days in which I didn't get the chance to post updates.

I conducted my focus groups on Wednesday, and they produced very interesting results. Only a couple of them had any notable music experience, and I selected three contrasting pieces to show to them. Interestingly, every participant seemed to pick up on an overall mood or theme of any given music sample, but they all had very different ways of describing them. I'll save the full details for the paper in order to keep this post from getting too long.

Next, on Thursday, I FINALLY got around to my interview with Greg McCleary. This was undoubtedly the most extensive interview I conducted, he and I managed to talk for nearly 40 minutes on the questions I had prepared. I have a full audio recording of our conversation which I plan to sift through and post the key bits of.

Finally, as of today, THE EP IS DONE!!! Unfortunately its out too late for me to use it as a vehicle for investigating people's response to homegrown vs. professionally produced music, but I was able to flip this around and instead will be using it as material for what it's like emotionally to be a performer in the studio. In short, I came to this idea because I was recording take after take after take, I found myself getting really strongly invested in whatever I was trying to show in that particular song, and I would tend to reflect that mood through the rest of my daily activities.

It'll be up on this site tomorrow under "The EP." Also, I'm currently finishing up my research paper... wish me luck!

Entry 13!

THE EP IS NEARLY COMPLETE. I plan to release it this weekend, or earlier if all goes exceptionally well!

Tomorrow is focus group day. Hopefully I'll get some good input from the volunteers!

Entry 12!

RESEARCH PAPER DRAFT 2 IS DONE!! Check it out filed under deliverables.

Let's just say the past few days have been a learning experience. I accomplished a lot, but also was definitely still getting back into the swing of things. I feel like I've regained my bearings now though, after all the travel I'd been doing which threw me off, so I have an extremely good feeling about the next two weeks concerning productivity. :D

Entry 11!

Draft 2 of the research paper is underway. You can view the progress I've made on it via the deliverables tab (it's still labeled as a first draft but I will update that when the new draft is done). I've ended up writing this one waaaaayy more down to the wire time-wise (deadline is tomorrow!!), but I've managed to get enough done that I'll undoubtedly have it finished by the end of the day.

As for my EP, I will be announcing the release date soon! Stay tuned!

Oh yeah, and another thing! I'm pleased to announce I will be attending McGill University next year!

I plan to use the rest of my week to FINALLY put the finishing touches on the EP, and also work on the next draft of my paper, which is due on Friday. Stay tuned for continuing progress!
